GOAL: Increase the user base, make available to enterprise employees the SQLDEV extension who cannot download from Marketplace.
BACKGROUND. As a defensive against external threats, malware, etc., my employer blocks downloads of software from the net such as the Marketplace. Any associate desiring to use external software must follow an internal process for nominating candidate products such as SQLDEV VSCode and provide metadata, including evidence of final support end date FSED ..., Here https://www.oracle.com/tools/sqldeveloper/support.html does not include SQLDEV VSCode releases. When an FSED expires, products are classified as NPT: Not Permitted Technology, and specific versions cannot be installed; are auto removed from any tracked devices. This governance is mandatory, and implemented not only to protect the firm from unvetted malware threats, but also as a regulatory requirement of the federal government. Once a product completes the approval process, it is then packaged in-house and available for download.
As the FSED for SQLDEV VSCode, is not listed, it's a frustrating obstacle blocking the internal approval for use.
As new SQLDEV versions are released quarterly, I would like to have them automatically available for associates hastening the adoption of new versions. Expanding the community of installed user base which helps to improve the product via bug detection. A further obstacle to onboarding is the digital paperwork needed for each product's release. It is mandatory drudgery! But there is a workaround! Products which are included in the Flexera Technopedia catalog are treated differently as trusted, versus products sourced from in the Marketplace. Many firms subscribe to Technopedia to manage their worldwide digital landscape of thousands of devices and software versioning FSED. Were SELDEV VSCode onboarded to the Technopedia catalogue, digital paperwork drudgery would not be required for every quarterly release; reducing the time for associates to install the latest version.
QUESTIONS.
(1) Is it possible to list the FSED for SQLDEV VSCode releases on the Oracle site?
(2) Can you explore the possibility of whether Oracle Copr. would be amenable to onboarding SQLDEV VSCode releases to Technopedia?
