I work for a software company that embeds Oracle Enterprise Edition. We run at least 7,000 Oracle instances world wide. We are currently on Oracle 19c, and we use the non-CDB configuration. Since that configuration is deprecated, and because critical patch updates for Oracle Database 19c will stop being delivered December 31, 2028, we must move to Oracle 23ai with our next major release. We plan these releases out years in advance, and it will take a great deal of engineering effort on our part to move from Oracle 19c to 23ai in the field. These field upgrades (7,000+) are done by our software without the presence of a DBA, just to give you a sense for what goes into this effort. All of that said, for planning purposes, we need to know if 23ai will be available when we start the development effort for our next major release. We start work in Q1 2025. Understanding if 23ai will be available has a major impact on our planning, and therefore the company really needs to understand when Oracle Database 23ai EE will finally be available. Can Oracle do a little better than “1H 2025” with their estimate? This is getting ridiculous. Do we have to stick with 19c?
