Oracle 11.2.0.4 Software-Only Install: No root.sh Prompt

janith sirilalApr 28 2025

Hi all,

I am installing Oracle Database 11.2.0.4 (Software-Only) on Oracle Linux Server release 6.10 using the GUI (Oracle Universal Installer).

All the installation steps completed successfully —
however, I did not receive the usual prompt to run the root.sh script, as described in Oracle documentation (link).

Normally, after the configuration assistants complete, the installer asks you to manually run root.sh with root privileges. But in my case, after reaching the final screen, only the "Cancel" button is visible, and there is no prompt to run root.sh.

My questions are:

  • Is it okay to manually run the root.sh script even if the installer did not explicitly prompt for it?
  • Is this behavior expected for a Software-Only installation?

Please advise on the correct procedure.
Thanks in advance for your support.
