ODBC / Instant Client

Frank PetersMay 20 2025

Hello everyone,

I hope I can get some help here.

I need to use the Oracle Instant Client (on a Windows Server 2022) for a project to access an Oracle database via ODBC. The Oracle database is version 19c, so I used the Instant Client version 19.

But currently I can't get it to work.

- Environment variables are set (oracle_home, tnsadmin, nls_lang)
- odbc_install executed (admin console)
- tnsnames.ora in the network/admin subdirectory
- I have also performed a reboot

I have set this up several times in the past and it worked.

The entry under TNSService Name in the ODBC dialog is empty, which indicates that something is wrong (but I can't figure out what).

If I enter the data manually, I get the following error:

Currently I don't know what the problem might be.

Is there something that I have overlooked or does anyone have a tip on how I can solve the problem?

Many thanks in advance!

Regards,
Frank
