I have a Microsoft Word document that is password-protected, and I’ve unfortunately forgotten the password. The file contains important work-related data, so I need to regain access without losing or corrupting the content.
I am using MS Word (Office 2019 / Office 365) on Windows 10. When I try to open the file, it prompts for a password, and I’m unable to proceed further. I’ve already tried a few common passwords I usually use, but none of them are working.
So far, I have considered the following:
- Checking older saved versions or backups (no luck yet).
- Trying password hints (not helpful in this case).
- Searching for recovery methods, including tools like SysTools MS Word Password Recovery.
However, I am not sure which method is actually safe and reliable without risking file corruption or data loss.
Has anyone successfully recovered a forgotten MS Word document password?
What are the recommended legitimate methods or steps for this situation? Also, is there any best practice to avoid losing access to Word files in the future?
Any help or guidance from experienced users would be appreciated.
