Perhaps a similar request is out there for these topics. If so, I didn't spot anything.
I see a May 2024 post under the ‘Column’ tag regarding the wrong column order being returned when opening the data view on a table. That may explain the behavior I encountered today when I found the column order of a wide table to be unexplainably wrong.
Before seeing that post, I started using the grid column drag and drop feature to address the column ordering I encountered. Then, concerned over the amount of time that approach was taking, switched to the dedicated Column Order management tool. I found both are very time consuming if you need to reshuffle a lot of columns.
I vote for a ‘Reset to Column ID Order’ feature somewhere in the data grid, and/or in the column order management tool to make quick work of returning to the default column_id-based order.
I stumbled into and like the ‘freeze pane’ concept when you drag and drop columns to the left-most column positions of the data grid. I think it'd be great if the manual Column Order management tool would allow for management of the frozen pane grouping, combined with a shift+click or ctrl+click approach to picking multiple columns to move into the freeze pane area.
Generally, a multi-select toolset would also be great for the grid column drag and drop workflow, and in the other Column Order management tool Order and Hide workflows.
