Automatic Failover of a DB service in a Data Guard configuration (19c)

BogdanMunteanuNov 13 2024

Hi there,

Long story short, we have a DG config (1 primary and 1 physical standby) and we've created services - one main service that runs on the primary (created with role = PRIMARY) and one reporting services that runs on the standby (role = PHYSICAL_STANDBY). So far so good. In case of a switchover, the services are “switched” and started accordingly, main one on the new primary, and reporting on the new standby.

The problem occurs in case of a failover (automated or manual). The main service will be started on the new primary, but the reporting service will stay down (since there is no standby anymore). The idea is to have the reporting service automatically moved/started on the new primary (somehow, we need the service to “know” that there is only one database available - although it has primary role) and start automatically there).

Is this possible? Can anyone guide me here?

Thanks heaps!

Bogdan
