After switchover to Oracle standby database, I am not able to restore new primary DB using a backup created before switchover

Anurag KumarDec 18 2024

Hi Team,

We have created Oracle primary(PRIMARY_DB) and standby databases(STANDBY_DB). We have also created backups for both the primary and standby databases. After some time, we performed a switchover to the standby database STANDBY_DB. Now STANDBY_DB is my Primary Database and PRIMARY_DB became standby.

Now we are trying to restore the STANDBY_DB using backups created on the same DB when it was a standby which is failing.

For normal DB restore we restore the snapshot at the storage level and apply archive logs to the given PIT, same we tried to restore STANDBY_DB which did not work.

Oracle Error:
ORA-01547: warning: RECOVER succeeded but OPEN RESETLOGS would get error below
ORA-01152: file 1 was not restored from a sufficiently old backup
ORA-01110: data file 1: '+DATADG_STD18DEC1056/STD18DEC1056/DATAFILE/system.258.1188021645'

So I would like to know whether restoring the STANDBY_DB(which is the primary DB now after the switchover) using the backups created when it was a standby DB is allowed or now?

If it is allowed then what differently should we do to restore DB for such cases?
