12c Client failing following Microsoft 365 update

Gordon RuthvenJun 9 2025

Hi All,

I have a user machine that was recently updated to 365, having previously been Office 2016.

The machine has 12c Client and Microsoft Client for Tools installed.

Following update to 365, I am now getting the 2 notifications\errors below, when attempting to connect to DB via power query or any other Microsoft application.

The recommended provider ('Oracle.DataAccess.Client') is not installed. You can continue with your current provider,
however it has been depreciated and may not work correctly.

An error happened while reading data from the provider:
'No ODAC driver is found on the system. Please visit https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/p/?LinkID=272376 to install the provider.'"

I have uninstalled and everything and reinstalled, the ODBC connection test is successful, therefore I can only assume the removal of 2016 and installation of 365 has caused the issue.

I am going to check whether the machine will allow me to connect directly via the ODBC, as opposed to the Oracle DB option in the power query source selector, when user is next in office. I was just wondering if anyone had an idea on this, as i have trawled for some time and tried numerous advisory steps to no avail. My next step is to remove everything i can find Oracle related on the machine, including registry entries( i had removed a couple of registry ODBC entries, when removing and re-installing client previously)

please note: The 19c Client has always presented a problem when installed previously, therefore we have continued on 12c, which is working fine on all other machines.

Help and advice appreciated.

Regards

Gordon
