I have an issue I hope someone can help me with. I've been researching it for weeks with no success on a resolution. Here's the problem:
Many years ago I created a ZFS storage pool: 8 disks in a raidz2 configuration. Each disk is 2TB so this gives me roughly 12TB of storage for my media server. Everything has worked very well & I'm really happy with the setup, but a few weeks ago I lost my first hard drive. I didn't think it would be a big deal - I purchased a new 2TB replacement drive, removed the failed drive, inserted the new drive in the same location, and issued the " zpool replace" command to bring it online. I got an error saying the disk could not be labelled, and that the pool could not be built due to an invalid vdev (see exact error below).
Does anyone know a solution to this? I've found several mentions of it online, but none of those situations have worked for me.
root@solaris:~# zpool status -v tank
pool: tank
state: DEGRADED
status: One or more devices has been removed by the administrator.
Sufficient replicas exist for the pool to continue functioning in a
degraded state.
action: Online the device using 'zpool online' or replace the device with
'zpool replace'.
