ZFS Appliance Performance issue

JitenderKApr 11 2017 — edited May 10 2017

Hi,

We are using ZS4-4.It almost 6 month old. Since we gone live on it we started to seeing performance issues.

Not sure if really saturated overall ZFS appliance.

Here are my observation on performance behaviour

1.     We have Physical Standby on using ZFS as storage. We are using NFS4 and dNFS.

Standby is not able to recover, its lagging for couple of hours, specially during peak hours of Primary database usages.

Our primary database generates Archive log almost every minutes.

2.     We have 2 development database which got created using Cloning/Snapshot method. Developer use to run some query for testing, almost all queries run very slow.

We have four Pools two(one for each head) for RMAN backup , and other two for (on each head) for Data files. Its an active active implementation.

here is our hardware details

1 x ZFS Storage ZS4-4

  • 2 x ZS4-4 Controllers
  • 2 x Oracle Storage Drive Enclosure DE2-24C
    • 2 x SSD write accelerators
    • 20 x 8 TB 7200 RPM high capacity disks
  • 4 x Oracle Storage Drive Enclosure DE2-24C
    • 24 x 8 TB 7200 RPM high capacity disks
  • Software: Cloning Option, Replication Option

Database size is 15+TB which has biggest impact.

Looking suggestion to how we can troubleshoot it.
