According to Doc ID 414673.1 (SuSE/Novell: Linux, Filesystem & I/O Type Supportability), the filesystem choice for 11gR2 databases on SLES 11 also comprises XFS.
The only caveat from a support point of view (when running SLES11, and 11gR2, is, for both and direct Async I/O:
"Oracle does not run certifications on local filesystems so if any issues specific to XFS Linux vendor should be engaged."
As even for Oracle Linux 7, XFS is the default file system, what is your opinion, or even experience with running XFS-based Oracle installs?
My plan would be to place at least the FRA on XFS, to avoid the lengthy fsck runs common on large ext3 file systems.
I know: ASM would be another option, but, for the time being, we would like to stick to the standard filesystems: otherwise, we would probably need Networker modules to backup the FRA contents to tape.
BTW: The SuSEcon Technical Introduction session "Installing, Tuning, and Deploying Oracle Database on SUSEĀ® Linux Enterprise Server 12" mentions XFS as first choice, before AFS or OCFS2.
Opinions welcome.
