X2100 M2 SP console freezes when rebooting the server
807557Jun 11 2009 — edited Jun 11 2009I have a number of X2100 M2 in my datacenter. When I need to boot one of them from a CD I use my browser to connect to the SP, start the eLOM remote console, mount an iso image, reboot the server and press F8 to be able to boot from the virtual CDrom. This worked perfectly until the beginning of the week. However since yesterday when I perform a reset of the server via the eLOM web interface or via the running OS the whole network connection to the SP freezes completely. I only get the connection back right before the OS starts booting so I'm unable to press F8 to choose an alternative boot method (I don't get to see the Sun logo anymore). Note: I'm resetting the OS, not the SP of couse.
I tried multiple X2100 M2's and they all suddenly have the same problem (at least one of them worked perfectly 2 days ago).
I tried rebooting the client where I run my webbrowser (to rule out any hanging Java issues),
I tried using another client (CentOS with firefox, Ubuntu with firefox, Windows with firefox as IE doesn't want to talk to the eLOM at all).
I tried connecting my portable directly to the SP port of the server (to rule out network issues).
I did do an upgrade of the firmware but at least one of the servers was working fine after the upgrade. I tried downgrading the firmware again anyway but that doesn't make any difference.
I tried resetting the BIOS values to defaults
I'm not using the SP network interface from the OS
When I run a ping from my client to the SP, I get no more replies when I'm doing the reset. As a matter of fact if I run a tcpdump on the network connection of the SP all traffic from the SP dissapears during the reset. The serial console to the SP however still remains active.
after the upgrade. I tried downgrading the firmware again but that doesn't make any difference.
Any ideas? Anybody seen this behavious before?
