Hello
I've been connecting to a Solaris machine for a few years now from my Mac desktop. I've been able to open X stuff with no issues, but now suddenly, I get the "Can't open display" errors.
Our Solaris machines are not configured for ssh, so I have to use rsh. (I can't change that)
On my Mac:
$ xhost + <solaris_ip>
$ rsh username@<solaris_ip>
Then, once logged in to Solaris, I set DISPLAY
$ export DISPLAY=<mac_ip>:0.0
xterm, xclock, etc..... now give me the dreaded "Can't open display" errors.
If I login to a Linux box, all X stuff works just fine.... its just our Solaris machines that are giving me issues.
My Apple specs:
OS X 10.11.6
XQuartz 2.7.9
My initial thoughts are that my Mac is not allowing the connection anymore, maybe from a recent security update???
A colleague thinks it may have something to do with XProtect.plist & XProtect.meta.plist, but I honestly am stumped.
This is a work thing for me, and I'm kinda dead in the water if I can't figure this out! Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks.
