wwv_flow_custom_auth_std.login question

Hello,

I think this may be trivial , but I want to make sure I get it right.

for the authentication built in package, does the login procedure (wwv_flow_custom_auth_std.login...) query the default USERS table or what ?
I know that we can pass this procedure the username/password...etc , but then , in which table does it check for that username/password ?? and can we cange that table ? ..
