With Apology to the Experts

As a newbie, average IQ DBA I have a humble complain to make to the exports like Jonathan Lewis, Tom Kyte, Richard Foote, Sybrand Bakker, Forstmann, sb, Chris Antognini, Milsap and almost all of them.
Before I make the complain, please be assured that I respect you and your knowledge and admit my lack of it. I have read the books by Lewis, Chris, Tom Kyte, Milsap etc and their blogs and I am at loss.
I wanted to learn performance tuning. I spend last two years grappling with the books of these writers, their blogs, followed their postings, but still I don't know what exactly to do when it comes to performance tuning. For example, in 10g and 11g, I know how to take snapshots, generate AWR reports for 15 or so minutes. I know the important sections are Load Profile, top 5 wait events, top SQLs by CPU and elapsed time, segments stats section. But I don't know how to correlate them when faced by the problem like 'My database is slow'.
Yes, I am silly. I ask silly questions. I ask them again and again. I get bashed by seniors, but I dont mind it, because I respect them and I understand that they just mourn my silliness. But why I am doing this? Because I want to learn? I don't want to let it go. It seems that those books and blogs are written not for newbies like me. I know that there are so many variations, but then there must be a scientific approach to identified the root cause, because all of these people are doing it. In their blogs, will all due respect, the language is so difficult and concepts are vague or just they comprise of debunking the myths. Yes now for years we know that rations are bad, now please move ahead.
For instance, Jonathan Lewis is so much gifted, and I am sure he can explain the tuning lucidly and in simple terms, but it beats me why he doesn't' do it. If instead of writing 'Cost Based Oracle', he would have written something more simple regarding tuning, it would be a huge favor to all average DBAs like me.
I am again sorry, and I meant no offense. I just wanted to let the icons I love know my thoughts.
Thanks.
