Why won't 1.5.0_06 work without deleted msjava.dll

My current workstation has MSJVM (msjava.dll) installed but with a new SP2 image of XP it'll be removed.

When testing applications and sites, I tried the 1.5.0_06 and simply renamed msjava.dll. In my opinion, the default JRE (5.0) would be called on.

But for one strange reason, it tries the msjvm first. Checked java -version, the java-test URL from java.com, the setting in IE6, all 1.5.0_06 files for 'msjava'.

Default=default, so why is the MSJVM interfering?
