Why RAC
400328Aug 4 2003 — edited Aug 4 2003I have worked with Oracle databases for many years. Last main release that I worked with was 8.1.7. I have also briefly worked with Oracle 9.2. These databases have also been running on single servers, sometimes with a standby database being updated with the log files.
Looking at the latest documentation there is a lot of talk about Real Application Clusters (RAC). Can someone tell me why one should choose a RAC installation instead of a single server installation with datafiles spread over different servers. What are the disadvantages of not going the RAC route? I hope that this makes sense to someone.
