why killing the session is not immediate

Hi
i am on 8.1.7.4 enterprise
i have a loop which takes hours
when i kill the sesison that run this loop
i can still see the loop is still doing it work (selects , inserts ,..........)
and i have to wait a loooooooong time

why killing the session is not immediate, any way to make it faster?
