Why isn't a generated foreign key displayed on the Entity Model Diagram

FlyingDutchman6 days ago

Hi there.

SDDM Ver: 24.3.1

As the title suggests, why can't SDDM display a foreign key that is generated in an entity, as in the following screenshot:

As you can see, attribute FATHER_FATHER PK is in the list of entity OFFSPRING's attributes, but not displayed on the diagram. If you bring the context menu up by righ-clicking on OFFSPRING and selecting “Show/Hide Elements” you will see that FATHER_FATHER PK is listed, and that the checkbox in the “Hidden" column is unchecked.

Checking or unchecking the FATHER_FATHER PK hidden column and then clicking “Apply” will not make FATHER_FATHER PK appear or dis-appear on the diagram, as it does for OFFSPRING PK. All it seems to do is to put a little blue triangle in the top right hand corner of entity OFFSPRING.

So a few questions:

  1. Is the fact that a generated foreign key not displayed on the Entity Model diagram by design (e.g. keep it de-cluttered), or is it a bug?
  2. What does the little blue triangle mean?
  3. Why is OFFSPRING PK listed twice, both as akey and as an attribute?

Thanks.

John.
