why have a separate class diagram and then a java class diagram?

Jdeveloper will only work wiht java then why have a seperate class diagram.
Both look the same except for maybe able to specify (list, array, collection .... )
in the relationships.

Is it only for design purposes or one can actually use it to generate say C++
classes etc.
