Why $GRID_HOME should be outside ORACLE BASE directory ?

Grid Infrastructure Version : 11.2 and higher

OS : Oracle Linux 7.7

Following is the convention for ORACLE_BASE and ORACLE_HOME directories for Grid Infrastructure in my shop

grid ORACLE BASE=/grid/app

grid ORACLE_HOME=/grid/product/11.2.0

Why is it that the installer throws error if I try to specify grid ORACLE_HOME inside ORACLE BASE directory /grid/app like /grid/app/11.2.0 ?

This applies for Oracle's OFA recommeded path too.
