SQL Developer

I have just been trying out SQL Developer for the last while and overall I quite like it. However it had one VERY big issue for me.

Does anyone know why both these Oracle database tools; Toad and SQL Developer seem to hang on queries that take hours to run. By hang I mean you cannot use any other tabs/windows, etc. and if you want to cancel the query you have to kill the app.

This does not seem to be the case with Query Analyzer on MS SQL Server for example. You can run several long queries and still open multiple tabs and run other queries.

Is this a problem with the dev tools (Toad, SQL Developer), or an underlying problem with Oracle database?

I am just a sql user/developer, but I often switch between SQL Server and Oracle, and this is the ONE big problem I have with both Toad and SQL Developer.

Other than that I think SQL Developer is a very big step in the right direction to replace SQL*Plus. It's about time!

For now I will probably continue with toad, because I know when it freezes, it';s still running, but if you can work out this bug with SQL Developer, I would be completely on board.
