Why 'Details Primary Key Item' is needed?

I don't understand the purpose of the "Details Primary Key Item" in Oracle APEX Workflow. Since I can add multiple parameters to a workflow, why do I need to use this specific item? Why can't I simply pass the desired value as a workflow parameter instead?
