Why can't you import more hierarchies to one version?

I understand the Automator is the workaround having more hierarchies in one version. However, I fail to understand the logic behind restricting only one hierarchy per version using the Import option. It sounds stupid. Is there some logic behind it? I am really hoping there is. Thanks guys.
