why are most production databases hosted on Unix server?

Hi ,

This is a general question. I understand uptime is one reason. Windows servers require frequent downtimes for applying windows updates. Are there any other reasons other than this. I have often heard that unix servers are more secure than windows? Can sumbdy please enlighten me on the security aspects?

Would appreciate other reasons as well.
