who-r returns no output
655665Jul 21 2011 — edited Jul 21 2011Got 'told off' for posting this on a dead thread (2010??) on the Solaris forum, so hopefully it might help someone else:
Installing 11.2.0.2 on RHEL5, the pre-requisite checks failed, with not being able to check the runLevel. Turns out that the Oracle user needs to be able to get an output from the who-r comand. WHen I typed who-r at the command line, I got no output.
The issue was with /var/run/utmp. This was altered to be:
-rw-r--r-- 1 root utmp 5376 Jul 21 14:36 /var/run/utmp
and now the install completes fine.
Our LINUX SA says this will be reset after every reboot, so we are going to script a chmod after every server restart to fix this.
Hope it helps someone.
