Whether INSTR function will uses the INDEX o not ?

Hi All,


I have a querry like 
    Select * from Tab1 Where Instr(Tab1.Col1,'XX') >0 ;
Simple Index is there on column Col1 . Whether it will use the index will be used or full table scan will happen in this scenario ?

Please give me explanatory answer because i am having doubt over this
