Where is all the data for the design saved? It's not in the .dmd file

Sorry if this is a basic question:

Data Modeler 3.0.0.665 on Windows XP 32 bit.

The .dmd file does not contain a portable version of the design. To me, that means it's difficult to share (and archive) a design between co-workers (without SVN)?

I save my design. Everything works fine. I'm able to load it back in. Out of curiosity, I look at the .dmd file in a text editor expecting to possibly see all the design meta data. Great it's XML. Easy to read. But, it barely has anything in it except a GUID (I'm guessing that points to somewhere else). So where in the heck is the actual design saved? Are design files not portable between installations?

So I do an Export -> To Data Modeler Design. Same result.

Either I'm missing something or something was seriously over-thought here.
