When to use What? - ServiceCallout & Route

Hi,

Can anyone help me in deciding when should I use service-callout and Route Action?
Do they have any performance-wise difference ?
Which is the best action if my requirement is getting response from a business service/ Target system. - For this requirement we can use both, but which is the best?
