When to use Golden Gate and/or Oracle Data Integrator (ODI)?

N VishnukumarDec 9 2016 — edited Dec 21 2016

Dear All,

I am a Newbie to Oracle Golden Gate and basically from Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) background. Basically looking for clarity on Golden Gate vs ODI and when to use what.

Some queries below,

1. Is Golden Gate a free license software to download and do sample POCs like Oracle Database?

2. Apart from mere replication, is Golden Gate capable of doing complex SQL transformations?

3. Is it possible to join multiple tables from heterogeneous sources and load the transformed records to Target database table?

4. Apart from real time sync is it possible to do a batch load or scheduled Extract, Transform and Load process in Golden Gate like we do in ODI or any other ETL tool?

5. Can Golden Gate replace ODI?

6. When to use Golden Gate or ODI or both?

I am trying to analyse Golden Gate vs ODI and understand their use cases.

Answers to get better insight are much appreciated. Let me know your concerns.

Kind Regards,

Vishnukumar N
