what's the best pattern for implementing drill down in an interactive report?

satishpDec 24 2022 — edited Dec 24 2022

So if i want a page with an interactive report (IR), and i want to enable drill-down, ie click a row on the IR and show a dynamic chart... what's the best pattern?
i ended up following this recipe but it just feels inelegant...
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/69976758/get-id-from-a-row-in-a-interactive-report
why isn't the ability to click an IR cell and do something useful with it not baked into the attributes?
Is there something i'm missing if trying to display one of the IR columns as a LINK? Can i set a page-level item (on the same page as the IR) on the click of the link?
