What is this Hyperion Planning RMI server?

Hi Experts,

I am into the installation and configuration of EPM system 11.1.2.3 for Planning applications on a windows server 2008 R2.

I just would like to know what is this RMI server/ port configuration for planning application.

one of the EPM standard deployment document says to uncheck the option of configuring RMI server. But it didn't say why?

So what is the difference in having/ not having configured this RMI for planning applications?
