what is this exception ??

I am using Apache james mail server 1.2.1 and when i try to run a Client it gives the following exception.
I am using the SmtpClient class from sun.net.smtp package
sun.net.smtp.SmtpProtocolException: 501 Syntax error in parameters or arguments
If I change the server name and give the name of my companies mail server..it works fine ..but it doesnt seem to take the apache mail server running in my machine..if anybody can help me ..please do so
