What is the use of GSD in Oracle 10g RAC ...?

Can any one please let me know the GSD service in Oracle 10g RAC.

After gone through some docs I'm conofused... For example, Below comments I've read from Burlesaon Oracle-dba blog of Oracle 10g RAC Administration.

For the SRVCTL to function, the Global Services Daemon (GSD) should be running on the node.
The GSD daemon has been replaced with the CRS in Oracle Database 10g.

Which one is true, If GSD is replaced with CRS then what is the necessity to have GSD service run in the nodes.....?
