what is the use of Bindings and executable section in a pageDef ??

what is the use of Bindings and executable section in a page Def file over View .

i know we can add different kinds of bindings to page with out through the bindings which are not there in page what is use of executable ??

if i click Green + icon i am getting different kinds of iterators and actions . if both are doing same why we we required two ???
