What is the JDBC driver version compatible with 9i Release 2 db

Did anybody test Oracle 9i Release 2 database with any JDBC drivers. Can 8.1.7.2 JDBC driver work well with 9i release 2 database or do I need to migrate my JBBC to 9.0.1 (this I would like to avoid at this time). Thanks
