What is the difference between a RAC and a Grid

iinfiAug 23 2011 — edited Aug 24 2011
Hi All,
I have worked in Oracle environments before and read about Oracle databases and RAC, but I am still not clear on the difference between RAC and Grid. Whenever we install Oracle database in cluster,
we install the clusterware and the database and its called Oracle RAC database.
Few days back a customer told me, I am running a Grid not a RAC!! How will installing RAC benefit me? I am kinda confused.

Can anyone please push my boat in the right direction to understand the core difference. I will take it on from there.

thank you
