What is the BIN$??? tables

I have just moved to SQL_Developer v3, and right off the bat, something struck me. My list of Tables now includes "BIN$?????". What are these? They seem to be copies of tables that were recently imported. Some people are still using v1, and they do not show up there. Do I get rid of them? Will they increase indefinitely?
