What is the best way to use HSP_NOLink?

user13102818Apr 30 2011 — edited May 1 2011
Hi All -

Currently having a debate about the proper use of HSP_NOLINK in Planning. Typically, I don't use it because I create accounts specific to plan types and I reference (xref, data export etc) summarized data to the Income statement Plan type. I am recently in a debate about "best practice" so....

Here is what I typically do if I am budgeting/forecasting for revenue at a lower level of detail in the revenue plan type than in the Income statement plan type
1. I create 2 plan types, PandL, Revenue
2. I make each revenue account in the revenue plan type unique by appending a consistent letter or otherwise
3. I budget/forecast at a lowel level of detail to dimension eg Customer that is not valid for the Pandl Plan type
4. I summarize data and transfer the data via xref, data export etc to the PandL Plan type.

Recently, someone mentioned that using hspnolink, I do not need step 2 - Make each account in the revenue plan type unique by appending a constant letter or otherwise but I do not think this is possible because:
1. The source plan type is not the same
2. I do not have commonality in dimensions between both plan types. For instance, I do not have Customer in the PandL plan type but budget to customer in the Revenue Plan type

Thoughts?
