What is FDM used for???

Hi

I have worked on Essbase,DIM,HFR,IR,WA,Planning.ODI...

I am new to HFM & FDM. i am trying to learn FDM . I have been reading FDM_admin..................but it left me confused,,............................

1.What is the function of FDM????

2. IS it like DIM,ODI to load members & data into HFM...

3. is FDM used with essbase,planning??
