What is "Bad PBR sig"?
807559Apr 3 2000 — edited Apr 25 2000I really don't know why I see this message - "Bad PBR sig" - over and
over again?
At first I tried to install the Solaris 8 (for Intel) to my first hard
drive in which Windows 98 was already installed.
Upon the partitioning of the disk, Solaris Web installer first deteced
the first drive as the target place to install solaris. At this step, it
certained recognized Windows 98 partition.
So I thought that I only need to add X86 boot partition and Solaris
partition. After i did the addition of the partitions, I chose "Exit"
to escape from that step.
But it would not allow me to do that.
So I had no choice but erasing the entire partition including Widnows'
partition, and set up all the first drive for the Solaris partition
only.
Then it went on to the next step, and copied system files to the mini
root of the hard drive.
After the copying, it rebooted, but that was all.
The system didn't find the bootable sector.
I only saw this message:
"Bad PBR sig" - no operating system found.
Can anyone tell me under what situation this problem happens?
How can I evade this kind of error?
I really would like to know how I can co-share my hard drive with
Solaris 8 wihout destroying the existing Windows 98.
Tell me what is the exact way in partitioning the hard drive?
For your reference, I have two hard drives. At primary, I installed Win
98, and at second drive, I installed Red Hat Linux 6.0. And currently I
boot these systems with the use of the BootMagic by PowerQuest - the
company that made PartitionMagic, because I didn't touch the MBR when I
installed the Linux.
I hope my questions to be answered as soon as possible.
Best wishes
