What happens to old data stored in win NTFS partition on installing linux ?

Got windows pc and on my way installing linux. What will happen to my old windows NTFS partitions and the data there in ? Wont linux knock off the Win NTFS partitions ? Will I be able to access my the ebs zip files that I saved on my D: drive (NTFS partition) that i downloaded from edelivery when using windows o/s?
