What does the dollar sign ($) mean in a table name?

654159Aug 7 2008 — edited Aug 8 2008
Hello,

I've noticed there are quite a few tables returned on one of my queries that have a dollar sign ($) in them. For examlpe BIN$blahblahblah. This I understand is a recycle bin table, but what about DM$ and DR$, etc. What does the dollar sign mean? Is it a 'hidden' table? Does it have any special properties? If I put a dollar sign in a table I create, is that proper? (Syntactically it's allowed)

Thanks

Dave
