What does orarun do for linux oracle install?

I have just installed 10g on Opensuse 10.3 linux and I am pleasantly surprised at how well it works so far.

I downloaded and installed orarun rpm as advised by Novell, and the oracle installation when well. The only difference I noticed between this linux install and installations on windows and red hat is that I did a few more small configurations. So what does orarun actually do? Does it provide some services that are already present in Red Hat and Windows?
