What does ocssd.bin do for non RAC databases?
413864Apr 26 2004 — edited Oct 27 2009I have installed the oracle 10g software (no database yet) on my standalone Linux Redhat ES 3.0 machine. I checked to see what processes were running after the install and found 16 instances of ocssd.bin. I'd like to know what these processes are responsible for, especially for a standalone database.
The only reference I can find to ocssd in the Oracle documentation states: "The Oracle Cluster Synchronization Service Daemon (OCSSD) performs some of the clusterware functions on UNIX-based systems."
In the init.cssd file which was installed into the /etc/init.d directory it includes a comment stating:
"In a local, non-cluster, installation without RAC, it [init.cssd] should be placed in an rcX.d directory or invoked by hand." which leads me to believe it has some functionality in non RAC systems. If not is it safe to disable it - and what is the best way of doing so???
