What does it mean having a scale greater than precision?

Mark1970Aug 19 2014 — edited Aug 19 2014

Hi,

I see that it's possible to have a scale of up to 127 but with a precision of up to 38 for decimal, so what does it mean having something like this:

create table xxx (yyy number(38,100));

I notice it doesn't cause an error but what does it make sense?

Thanks!
