What can SQL Model Clause do which the others can't?

unknown-879931Feb 11 2015 — edited Feb 14 2015

Hi All,

I encountered a topic called The Model Clause when I was reading Pro Oracle SQL by Karen Morton, Kerry Osborne, Robyn SandsRiyaj Shamsudeen, and Jared Still. I just read the chapter and did some practice on my local machine. It is obvious that it looks very powerful feature. And I also reachered on the web and I found out that it is used for spreadsheets (excel etc). Can someone please give me a simple example that in which cases we have to use the SQL Model clauses that Analytic Functions or Advanced Grouping functions cannot remedy?

By the way I strongly recommend Pro Oracle SQL book to all people who want to learn insights of SQL.

Thanks in advance
