Weird problem with Oracle Linux 6.4: net-snmp-utils installs, but does not materialise!

Jeff_JJul 16 2013 — edited Jul 16 2013

OK so we have a number of Oracle Linux servers, work lovely, and today we decided we needed to monitor them with an SNMP Server.

Simple task we thought:

1) yum install net-snmp-utils

2) Edit /etc/snmp/snmpd.conf

3) service snmpd restart

Right..?

We did this on a number of servers... the net-snmp-utils RPM installs perfectly fine - however once done, there appears no trace of any SNMP agent service being installed.

There is no /etc/snmp/ folder

There is no snmpd service in init.d

We followed the instructions time and time again, on multiple servers and the exact same thing.

Nothing.

Does anyone have any clue as to what may be the problem?

Cheers,

J
