VMware snapshot of physical standby

Chuck1958Nov 20 2012 — edited Nov 20 2012
I want to do DR testing using my physical standby database. That database is on a VMware VM (guest OS is Windows 2008 R2). The standby is using maximum performance with real-time apply.

My plan is this...

1) take a vmware snapshot
2) activate the standby
3) do the testing
4) roll back to the vmware snapshot

It all sounds simple and straight forward. I just wanted to ask about it here first to make sure I'm not overlooking something.

I thought about using flashback on the physical standby but I thought I remember reading somewhere that a separate license was required for that.

One more thing. Would it be better to DEFER that standby location throughout the test? I think if I leave it on it will simply continue to write to the standby logs but they will be ignored. When I roll back to the snapshot, the standby should recognize the gaps and automatically resolve them. Am I missing anything?

TIA
